A cloudless
sky
On a moonlit
night
A whispered
endearment
Makes me
shiver with delight
I smile and
look back
And reach for
your outstretched hand
You run your
fingers through my hair
Smoothing the
wayward strands
I look deep
onto your eyes
The very
depth of your soul
It says to me
You are the
half that makes me whole
You pull me
closer
And I snuggle
in your arms
I feel warm
and safe
And protected
from all harm
A gentle
breeze stirs the leaves
The crickets
chirp a song
Encouraging
us to explore this love
And let it
grow strong
I lean back
against you
And feel your
arms tighten
Tense and
alert you grow
My
apprehension heightens
A sudden
silence
A distant
howl
A rustle of
leaves
And a low
mean growl
The clouds
begin to gather
And cover the
moon like a shroud
Slowly we
turn
And I gasp
out loud
In the last
sliver of moonlight
I see an evil
gleam
Of vicious
eyes
My breath
catches and I cannot scream
We turn to
run
As darkness
descends
I trust his
guidance
And on him I
depend
Racing across
the jagged ground
We stumble
and fall
We hear the
panting get closer
Is this the
end of it all?
Bats scatter
into the night
A figure
flies out of the trees
We try to
rise
But fall back
helpless on our knees
We hear him
move
A sleek
stealthy stalk
Around us in
a circle
He walks and
walks
A musty smell
Of the ages
gone by
Of the earth
and its cousins
And the
essence of the sky
His aura
shimmers
In the
darkened night
A glowing orb
Shining so
bright
My companion
struggles
To shield my
fallen form
He tries to
keep me safe
From the
approaching storm
A frustrated
grunt
And I feel
him pulled away
By rough
hands
And the world
starts to sway
The blackness
grows thicker
And engulfs
me
And as I
close my eyes
It’s his
strange smile I see
He has
succeeded
This darkened
creature
In destroying
Love’s every
feature…
